Thought for the day, plus some posts on the Stock Market, Finance, Politics, and Life!
The S&P continued its pullback this past week ending the year at 2238.83. Where we go next week is anyone's guess, but hopefully we have a good 2017!
“When it shall be said in any country in the world, my poor are happy; neither ignorance nor distress is to be found among them; my jails are empty of prisoners, my streets of beggars; the aged are not in want, the taxes are not oppressive; the rational world is my friend, because I am a friend of its happiness: When these things can be said, then may the country boast of its constitution and its government.” ~ Thomas Paine
"Adjust your lifestyle to your savings, not your savings to your lifestyle!" – Unknown
“Stay afraid, but do it anyway. What’s important is the action. You don’t have to wait to be confident. Just do it and eventually the confidence will follow.” ~ Carrie Fisher
“Take risks. If you win you will be happy. If you loose, you will be wise.” ~ Author Unknown
A very good article with an interesting chart showing that trying to pick an investment sector to stay in from year to year is a tough game. This is why I don't invest in any one sector, but a stay in a mix of stocks in different sectors in broad based funds.
“The secret to change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.” ~ Socrates
“Mend a quarrel. Seek out a forgotten friend. Dismiss suspicion and replace it with trust. Write a letter. Give a soft answer. Encourage youth. Manifest your loyalty in word and deed. Keep a promise. Forgo a grudge. Forgive an enemy. Apologize. Try to understand. Examine your demands on others. Think first of someone else. Be kind. Be gentle. Laugh a little more. Express your gratitude. Welcome a stranger. Gladden the heart of a child. Take pleasure in the beauty and wonder of the earth. Speak your love and then speak it again.” ~ Howard W Hunter
“Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before! What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store. What if Christmas...perhaps...means a little bit more!”- Dr. Seuss, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!
The S&P continued its sideways chop this past week. Guess we'll see if the Santa Claus rally takes effect next week, or we roll-over. I didn't trade anything this past week, nor will I trade next week, so my hobby of trading comes to an end for 2016. I only had gains from trading of +4.8% for 2016, which is better than the money sitting in a bank, but no wheres near the gains from my investments this past year.
