Thought for the day, plus some posts of interest!
If you follow my posts here, you know I've been struggling this year so far trading compared to my investing! If you ever traded before, you know everyone goes through a down period where you just lose your trading mojo and can't seem to get it back! If a trader says they never lose money, they're a liar! I'm currently down -1.4% for the year from trading.
Let's put that into perspective; I trade for fun as a hobby to occupy my time during the day since I'm retired and I've yet to find another hobby I enjoy more. I only trade with a small portion of my net worth, so that means the -1.4% equals to only -$1,400 since I trade with 100k in my trading account. I could make that back in a few good trades since I put 20k per position. I'm actually enjoying looking at different charts and indicators now to try to tweak my swing trading style in order to correct my poor trading. I'll let you know when I find the holy trading grail, lol! My wife has now semi-retired, so I'm enjoying doing stuff with her during the day and don't want to be in front of a computer screen all day. I plan to trade less which is why I've recently switched to just trading ETFs, since they require less work in creating a watch list. If I make money, great, if not, oh well I don't need it to survive. I need to stop feeling like a failure because I'm currently trading poorly (many traders won't admit to that), and just let my investments (where most of my money is parked) do the heavy lifting!
That being said is why I stress on my website the importance of investing for wealth creation and so far this year, my investment portfolio is up +2.66%, Here is what my investment gains look like so far this year as of yesterday:
